I for sure wouldn't forget GW nor GW2.
First off, I have good faith in A-Net for not banning people that didn't do anything that's forbidden according to the EULA And that they are cooperative to un-do a ban in the rare case the ban was in error. So I have good hope that my account will never have to suffer from this.
But even if I would get (mistakenly) banned, my achievements in GW so far are the result of the countless hours of fun that I had while playing GW. Sure, in the proces I also gathered some titles that I wouldn't even have considered to get if there was no HoM or GWAMM title, but even getting most of those was quite fun, if only for continuously giving me a target to work for when being online.
So even though a ban would result in the loss of all those achievements, losing these achievements would not take away the memory of thousands of hours of fun that I had. Though I sure would be quite pissed about loosing an account that I spent quite some bucks on for campaigns, storage, character slots, costumes, etcetera. But on the other side... it's money spend on pixels and once GW2 is released it would be "gone" anyway as I probably won't be giving that much attention to GW anymore.

I would seriously be annoyed if they would ban me for using a 3rd party program(texmod is the only one in my case) but I could not say I would not start again. Dunno, I just hope they didn't ban me

Nope. If they behave, Anet apparently doesn't mind much, either. I do believe repeat offenders can find themselves IP banned, though...

I disagree. If they clean up their act, they're welcome back. If they don't, they'll be re-banned. And by now, they'll know Anet is serious about it...

Good, Anet gets more money, we get players who I expect will behave a bit better in the future, and they get another chance. If they waste the chance...

I was banned, but only because my account was hacked by chinese gold sellers (and no I never shared my account info and I had an up to date virus scanner)
In fact Anet was very helpful in returning my account when I contacted support even if I had lost my original access codes to the game. All I lost was 500k and a chest armor. So in this case I say THANK YOU Anet for banning my account so quickly when it got hacked, and beging helpful in returning it to me after. I would certainly lose a lot more otherwise :-)

If for some reason I am unable to retrieve my account, I'm sure as hell out of here for the remainder of GW1. 5 years and a few fow sets on, thats really alot I am not willing to earn again.
GW2 depends entirely on how good/bad it is in beta

Simply put,
If you did nothing wrong...you have nothing to fear
All this can be smokescreen for guys on various posts re botting
Anet will look at your account if you have nothing to fear thats the crux
So either contact anet if you did nothing wrong and await its return or,
admit defeat and play another game your time is up

It took me since maybe a few months after the release of Prophecies for me to get to where I am now. I don't have that much time these days, and I don't have that span of time between now and GW2. I wouldn't be bothering with GW anymore if I was justly permabanned.

mmm..good response. More people will buy gw, im sure this mass banning is posted on other MMO forums and sites.

Was a recent botter, got banned for botting, and I'm happy for it.
I have hopes of seeing GW2 enforcing these policies as well.

The response by ANET is welcome and jest, but it makes you wonder how a good portion of the community will react and how it effects profits down the line. There's a saying "Burn me once..."

Hell, it didn't hit me and I'm already at the point where GW2 is 75% blanked.

I'd learn from my mistake and move on.
I do sympathise somewhat as it must have been a temptation to take the path of least resistance, and I'd be gutted if I had played for a few years legitimately and had then been foolish enough to let my judgement slip, but at the end of the day rules are rules.
I'd say 90% of those who say they won't buy GW2 will eventually. It's mainly angry reaction at the moment but anger usually dissipates and is replaced with contemplation and reflection at which time I'm sure these players will realise they had nobody to blame but themselves.

Most of that is true. Many botters [mod edit: removed reference to botting site] are claiming that they don't plan on buying GW2 now, but many are saying the opposite. The truth is that if they liked the game, they'll buy it and maybe even eventually bot in it too. If they only played/botted for profit, then they probably wont care about GW2 unless there's a profit in it for them.

There's something that I thought many players would have heard about by now, but apparently haven't. A picture is worth a million words, so I'll show you a pic that was sent to me today by a friend of mine who "used" to bot.
They apparently IP traced all of his accounts and got every single one. Even accounts that were borrowed from other players. Thank god I never let him use mine.
You can re-purchase the game all you want, but if your IP is banned, then you'd have to proxy every time you wanted to play GW. And that's not fun.

I was slowly starting to have the feeling that if i farmed some item by my own work then there would be 888888 bots farming the same item and overflowing the market with it.
That would remove my incentive to play for economic gain. That is, reducing GW to be just a chatter site among old friends. Even old friends depart or we would go to msn or facebook to keep in touch. Eventually they would leave too, and so would !.
So yes if anet had let these botters live i would eventually have left.

So I am not sure I agree with the IP ban, if you got banned and buy a new game and have to start over again. Shouldnt you be able to play the game you payed for? Maybe they IP - banned the most serious offenders?

i won't ever get banned because i don't mess with a single 3rd party application. it's nice to be able to rest easy. it really saddens me to see all the people who are asking, "will i get banned for this?" or this, or this, or this? just play the game the way it was intended to play. if you don't like the way it is intended to play, don't play it. it's actually quite simple.
